More details taking shape

Since the last photo taken, I have spent time working on calming down the background.  I know I am attempting to do something more vibrant and patterned in this piece, but I still want to maintain the feeling of calm, and I don't want this painting to be chaotic.  I also started fleshing out the butterfly on the right hand side a little more, and adding detail to the wings on the bottom swallowtail.  Those tiny dots are a lot of fun!

Trio of Butterflies on a Silk Scarf - in progress

Today, I worked a bit on a new painting featuring three butterflies on a colorful silk scarf.  This afternoon, I focused on the color gradations on the bottom butterfly.  I also did a few adjustments to the colors of the scarf.

Next time I work on the painting, I will probably start adding many of the beautiful blue specks of color that show up against the black wings on the bottom butterfly, and refining some of the edges.  I haven't begun to really tackle the butterfly in the top right, and the top left butterfly has a ways to go.  These middle stretches of the painting, it can be an exercise in self-discipline!

New direction

Here is a glimpse at a new painting I have recently started.  Sort of a different direction, with more color and patterning.  We'll see...

Oh, also... Here is another painting I have been working on for a while, of a shell.  This one is almost finished, but not quite.  Below are some of the photos I have taken during the process.

Newly Finished

Contemplation: Little Tornado
oil on canvas, 14"x11"

Just finished this little painting from my Contemplations series the other day.  Another artist friend asked me the other day if I feel like I have gotten tired of my nests and small objects.   In a nutshell: no. ;)  I love painting these quiet canvases, and I don't know if I will ever tire of them.

In Progress

This is the second time I have worked on this painting.  Soon, I'll go back and add more and more layers of color and detail.  More photos to come as this one progresses
